Whipcord Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata 'Whipcord') is a unique and striking cultivar of the Western Red Cedar, known for its unusual, spiraling, and cascading growth habit. It’s an evergreen conifer that adds texture, movement, and year-round interest to gardens and landscapes.

This cultivar is hardy in USDA zones 5–8, making it suitable for a range of climates, from colder regions to more temperate areas. It prefers more temperate climates but can withstand winter temperatures in its hardiness zone.

Care:

This plant prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil and does best in full sun to partial shade. It is relatively low-maintenance once established but benefits from regular watering, especially in dry periods. It is fairly drought-tolerant once it matures. While it generally requires little pruning, occasional thinning of any dead or damaged branches will help maintain its form.

Care summarized:
LIGHT: Full sun, Partial sun
WATER: Water when top 2 inches of soil is dry.
SIZE: Slow growing; reaches 4 to 5 ft. tall and wide, in natural form.
