Light
Bright, indirect light: Place the palm near an east- or west-facing window with filtered or dappled sunlight.
Avoid direct sun: Harsh midday or direct sunbeams will easily scorch and brown the delicate pleated fronds.
Water & Soil
Moisture level: Keep the soil consistently moist, never soggy. Water thoroughly when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry to the touch.
Winter reduction: Slow down watering frequency slightly during winter months when growth stalls. Use distilled or filtered water if possible to prevent mineral buildup.
Soil mix: Use a rich, fast-draining potting mix containing peat moss, perlite, and pine bark or orchid bark to prevent root rot.
Humidity & Temperature
High humidity: Aim for 50% to 80% humidity. Regular morning misting, a nearby pebble tray, or running a room humidifier helps prevent brown, crispy leaf edges.
Warmth: Keep temperatures between 70°F and 85°F during the day, staying above 60°F at night.
Draft protection: Keep the plant far away from air conditioning vents, heaters, and cold drafts.
Feeding & Maintenance
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, slow-release or diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer once a month (or 2–3 times a year for slow-release) only during spring and summer. Stop fertilizing in autumn and winter.
Pruning: Trim away dead, yellowing, or browning bottom fronds cleanly about an inch from the main stem as they age.
Repotting: Repot every 2 to 3 years in the spring using a container that is only slightly larger with good drainage holes.
